Jamie Crandell Invited to Collaborate on NIH-Funded HPV Study

Research assistant professor Jamie Crandell will be lending her biostatistics expertise to a study based in the UNC School of Journalism. In the study, recently funded by the National Institutes of Health, lead investigator Joan Cates and her colleagues plan to investigate whether texts, games, and web portals can increase the rate of preteen vaccination for human papillomavirus (HPV).

Dr. Crandell, PhD, will assist her fellow investigators in analyzing data of various efforts to educate parents, teens, and doctors on the importance of HPV vaccination. Increasing the vaccination rate, especially in young boys, could prevent an estimated 53,000 future cases of cervical cancer in women.
