The UNC School of Nursing is proud to announce that Jessica Williams, PhD, MPH, PHNA-BC, FAAN, has been awarded a National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) R25 grant for her project, “Bridging Research Gaps: Building Capacity for Measuring and Addressing Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) in Maternal Health Research.”

This two-year project, running from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2026, is funded at $426,796. The project aims to address the gap in maternal health research regarding intimate partner violence (IPV), a factor linked to adverse maternal health outcomes, including maternal mortality. Despite this connection, IPV remains underexamined in maternal health research.

The grant will fund the development, implementation, and evaluation of a web-based research education program and resource toolkit. This program is designed to equip maternal health researchers with essential skills to effectively measure and address IPV in their studies. By building this capacity, the project aims to generate evidence-based solutions that can be translated into practice, ultimately contributing to better maternal health outcomes and addressing IPV among vulnerable populations.
