Jessica Zègre-Hemsey, PhD, RN, FAHA, has been awarded a Senior Faculty Research and Scholarly Leave for the 2025–2026 academic year by the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
The competitive program provides one year of leave and research funding supported by the Kenan, Pogue, William R. Kenan, Jr., William N. Reynolds, and R.J. Reynolds Industries funds. It is intended to give faculty time for focused research and scholarship.
Zègre-Hemsey will use the sabbatical to pursue several ongoing projects related to emergency cardiac care. These include developing a large-scale R-level grant proposal based on data from her REMOTE-ACS pilot study and expanding collaboration with researchers at the Karolinska Institute who are involved in AED-drone delivery systems.
“I am grateful to be the recipient of a Senior Faculty Research and Scholarly Award from the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost,” said Zègre-Hemsey. “This opportunity will provide me time to focus on several research projects and scholarly activities that directly contribute to my program of research in emergency cardiac care. The research sabbatical is timely as my work integrates new strategies and innovations to advance early disease detection and emergent response for individuals suffering from acute cardiovascular disease.”
