Khairat Obtains R21 Grant to Study Teleconsent

Congratulations to Assistant Professor, Saif Khairat, PhD, whose joint project with colleagues at the Medical University of South Carolina was recently fundedby the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences to improve the recruitment of participants for clinical trials and studies through the use of telemedicine technology.

The two-year study, on which Khairat is co-investigator, received $238,125 in NIH funding to evaluate the advantages, feasibility and impact of teleconsent, whereby clinical trial participants may meet virtually with trained research personnel through a video feed to learn about and consent to that clinical trial.

The goal of teleconsent is to improve the recruitment and enrollment of eligible research participants into clinical trials by making it easier to access participants.
