Saif Khairat, PhD, MPH, has been invited by the WHO South East Asia Regional Office to serve as a Global AI consultant on the development of India’s AI in Health Strategy.
In this role, Khairat collaborates with national leaders and multiple agencies through consultations and workshops, providing valuable insight into the unique strengths of India’s healthcare system, as well as areas where AI can help address current challenges and improve health system performance.
“It was an honor to support the WHO South East Asia Regional Office and national partners in helping shape the initial draft of India’s AI in Health Strategy,” said Khairat. “India’s launch marks an important milestone in global digital health and reflects a thoughtful commitment to advancing AI in ways that are safe, responsible and aligned with health system needs.”
India is among the first countries to launch such a strategy, which provides a roadmap for the effective, safe and responsible adoption of AI in health. With its launch, India has a major opportunity to realize the benefits of AI while proactively addressing potential risks such as algorithmic bias and overreliance on automated systems, helping ensure safe, equitable and high-quality care delivery.
