The UNC School of Nursing is proud to congratulate Peggy Wilmoth, PhD, RN, FAAN, on her election as president-elect of the Reserve Organization of America (ROA). Dr. Wilmoth was elected during ROA’s annual meeting on Capitol Hill and will officially assume the role of president in 2025.

Wilmoth’s election is a testament to her remarkable career, both in academia and in military service. She retired from the Army Reserve in 2017 as its deputy surgeon general, having served for more than 35 years. During her military career, she became the first nurse to command a medical brigade responsible for wartime readiness across the southeastern U.S. and Puerto Rico. She also broke new ground as the first nurse to hold the position of deputy surgeon general for the Army Reserve.
