First-year School of Nursing PhD student Ryan Chi-Hsuan Su has received the 2025 Barbara A. Senich Research and Innovation Award. The $5,000 award will support Su’s qualitative study examining barriers and facilitators to delivering evidence-based nutrition care for ICU survivors.
Many ICU survivors face a risk of malnutrition and receive inadequate screening and follow up. As a result, nutrition challenges often persist long after hospital discharge. Su’s study aims to identify the factors that shape the delivery of evidence-based nutrition care to help inform future intervention development.
“I am honored to receive this award, which is deeply meaningful to me and my growth as an early-career researcher,” Su said. “It will directly support my work to improve nutrition care for ICU survivors by enabling essential early-stage studies that identify barriers and opportunities throughout their recovery journey.”
The study will be supported by Dr. Kea Turner, associate professor, and Dr. Brandi Apple, BSN program director and associate professor.
