Saif Khairat, PhD, MPH, has been inducted into the American College of Medical Informatics (ACMI), the honorific society of AMIA that recognizes leaders who have made sustained, impactful contributions to biomedical and health informatics.

Dr. Khairat’s work focuses on digital health, telehealth and responsible artificial intelligence to improve care quality, usability and health equity. He leads research and implementation efforts that translate informatics innovation into practice across health systems and global settings.

“ACMI represents the highest level of professional distinction in biomedical informatics,” Khairat said. “This recognition reflects the collaborative work of colleagues, trainees and partners focused on using informatics, digital health and AI to improve care delivery and advance health equity.”

His work includes evaluating virtual care models, electronic health record usability and clinician cognitive workload, and developing data-driven measures to identify and address access gaps. His induction reflects a career of scholarship, mentorship and service to the informatics community and reinforces UNC’s leadership in applying informatics to strengthen health care delivery and outcomes.
