The UNC School of Nursing is proud to announce that Sinhye Kim, PhD, RN, an alumnus of the PhD program, former post-doctoral fellow, and now Research Assistant Professor, has been awarded the 2024 APEX Award for Publication Excellence in Health & Medical Writing.
The APEX Awards, established in 1988, honor outstanding work in writing, design, and publications. Dr. Kim was recognized for her article, “How does workplace violence reporting culture affect workplace violence, nurse burnout, and patient safety?” published in the Journal of Nursing Care Quality. The article was nominated by the journal’s editor for its exceptional quality and impact.
This award also recognizes her co-authors, Drs. Mary R. Lynn, Marianne Baernholdt, Rebecca Kitzmiller, and Cheryl B. Jones, all members of her dissertation committee. Dr. Kim expressed her gratitude: “This achievement is the result of excellent advising throughout my PhD program. I deeply appreciate all the support from the School of Nursing and faculty members, especially Dr. Cheryl B. Jones, my doctoral advisor and dissertation chair.”
Dr. Jones said, “Sinhye is an exceptional and visionary nurse scientist. Her dissertation research was completed during the pandemic, a time when workplace violence escalated in healthcare settings. Dr. Kim’s research has garnered numerous citations and stands as an example for doctoral students of how dissertation research can inform clinical practice.”
