After a long and distinguished career with the UNC School of Nursing, Debra Barksdale, PHD, FNP-BC, ANP-BC, CNE, FAANP, FAAN, a native Virginian, will return to her home state to join the faculty of the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Nursing as professor and associate dean for academic programs.
School of Nursing faculty and staff gathered on Wednesday, December 9 to celebrate Dr. Barksdale’s many accomplishments and contributions while at the SON and to wish her well in her next step. She was thanked by colleagues and students alike for her mentorship, advocacy, encouragement to leadership, and support.
Interim Dean Donna Havens was joined in noting Dr. Barksdale’s achievements by colleagues Anita Tesh, Cheryl Giscombe, Gwen Sherwood, Cheryl Jones and Rumay Alexander in a program that combined just the right mix of honor and humor.
To comply with Dr. Barksdale’s wish to “go out dancing,” the party ended—as so many School of Nursing events do—with impressive faculty/staff collaboration on the Wobble.
Our sincerest thanks and best wishes to Dr. Barksdale!
