Undergraduate Student Research Grant
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Student in good academic standing in an accredited baccalaureate program in a school of nursing working on an Honors Project. Proof of meeting this eligibility criterion needs to be submitted along with the grant application.
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Application consists of a one-page, single spaced abstract of the research proposal including (outline form acceptable) the purpose, background summary and proposed methods (sample and approach to be taken). (Note: 0.5 inch margins, 11 point font)
- Included on a second page must be brief budget showing how the money will be used, and the names and signatures of the student(s) and their academic advisor(s).
- A letter of recommendation/support from a research mentor/academic advisor.
RESEARCH FUNDING:
- Funds for this grant are provided by the Alpha Alpha Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International, with a maximum individual award of $100.
- Allocation of funds is based on the quality of the proposed research and the research budget.
- Once the research is completed, recipients must prepare a final abstract and submit it to Alpha Alpha Chapter, with receipts indicating how the research funds were used.
Graduate Student Research Grant
The purpose of the Sigma Theta Tau, Alpha Alpha Chapter Small Research Grant program is to support graduate students to contribute to the advancement of nursing through research.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Proof of meeting the following eligibility criteria needs to be submitted along with the grant application.
- Student in good academic standing in an accredited Master’s or doctoral program in a school of nursing working on degree-related research (MSN, DNP, or PhD, any campus).
- Students must be a member (or being inducted as a member) of the Alpha Alpha chapter of Sigma Theta Tau.
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Application consists of a one-page abstract of the research proposal including (outline form acceptable) the purpose, background summary and proposed research methods (for example, research design, setting, sample, instruments/measurements, and approach to be taken). (Note: 0.5 inch margins, 11-point font)
- Included on a second page must be brief budget showing how the money will be used, the institution at which that the doctoral work is being conducted, and the names and signatures of the faculty and their academic advisor(s). The budget should be consistent with the proposal.
- A letter of recommendation/support from a research mentor/academic advisor.

- Allocation of funds is based on the quality of the proposed research and the research budget.
- Once the research is completed, recipients must prepare a final abstract and submit it to Alpha Alpha Chapter, with receipts indicating how the research funds were used. Recipients must also participate in the next Alpha Alpha spring poster session.
Faculty and Post-Doctoral Fellow Research Grant
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Proof of meeting the following eligibility criteria must be submitted along with the grant application.
- Must be currently employed as a faculty member or a current post-doctoral fellow of UNC School of Nursing (any campus).
- Must be a member of the Alpha Alpha chapter of Sigma Theta Tau.

- Application consists of a one-page, single spaced abstract of the research proposal including the purpose, background summary and proposed research methods (for example, research design, setting, sample, instruments/measurements, and approach to be taken). (Note: 0.5 inch margins, 11 point font)
- Included on a second page must be brief budget showing how the money will be used. The budget should be consistent with the proposal.
- For post-doctoral fellow(s), a letter of recommendation/support from a research mentor/academic advisor is required.
