Successful Community Wellness Event at Falconbridge Clubhouse promotes health and unity

Falconbridge residents came together on September 9th, 2023, for a memorable and impactful Community Wellness Event held at the Falconbridge Clubhouse. From 9 am to 12 pm, the Clubhouse was transformed into a hub of health and camaraderie, leaving an indelible mark on the community.

This well-executed event, hosted by assistant professor Grace Wu, PhD, RN, and many of our nursing faculty, students, and local nurses and respiratory therapists of the Asian American/Pacific Islander Nurses Association-North Carolina Chapter (AAPINA-NC), offered an array of essential health screenings to local residents. Among the services provided were blood pressure checks, respiratory function assessments complete with SpO2 level monitoring, and heart rhythm screenings for atrial fibrillation using a mobile EKG machine. These screenings were not just informative but also instrumental in promoting individual health.

What set this event apart was its commitment to inclusivity. It welcomed residents of all ages and backgrounds, with no prior registration required. This accessibility resonated deeply with Falconbridge’s community spirit, fostering connections among neighbors and emphasizing the importance of collective well-being.

The success of this event was made possible through the collaboration of the AAPINA-NC, the UNC-CH SON, the UNC Biobehavioral Lab, and the generous support of Falconbridge’s leaders. As the event concluded, it left a legacy of health, collaboration, and unity that will undoubtedly endure within the Falconbridge neighborhood and UNC-CH School of Nursing.
