UNC Association of Nursing Students Raises Awareness and Funds for Breast Cancer Research with Annual Pink Heels Event

The UNC Association of Nursing Students (ANS) raised $2,534 for the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center in their 2nd annual Pink Heels event.

All funds raised in this year’s Pink Heels event will go to support the Richardson and Marilyn Jacobs Preyer fund for Breast Cancer Disparities Research.

The UNC ANS will continue to hold the Pink Heels event every October to continue to raise awareness and funds to donate to breast cancer research every year.

“Pink Heels has been such a fun initiative to bring our school and community together towards a meaningful goal. ANS strives to lead by example and to give back to the community that is raising us to be future nurses. I think that Pink Heels has been an excellent exemplar of this, and I am honored to have had the opportunity to work with UNC Lineberger in our efforts to raise money for breast cancer disparities research. With such high goals set after our second year doing this, I can only imagine how this event will transpire and grow with the coming years!”

Mya Yorke, President of the UNC Association of Nursing Students & SHAC Lab Coordinator 2022–2023

“As a nursing student at UNC and as a future nurse, I am so grateful to be able to help organize the Pink Heels event because I’m able to help raise money and awareness towards UNC Lineberger, a resourceful organization in our community for cancer research and treatment. For the future Pink Heels events, I hope to continue to raise money and awareness towards improving the quality of care and life for cancer patients, cancer survivors, and their families. I was grateful to support the Richardson and Marilyn Jacobs Preyer fund for Breast Cancer Disparities Research because it enables the cancer center to continue to advance groundbreaking research on reducing breast cancer disparities.”
