The UNC School of Nursing is proud to announce Olivia Tseng, BSN ’24, as the recipient of the first UNC School of Nursing DAISY Award for Extraordinary Students. Olivia has demonstrated exceptional dedication and leadership within the Carolina Nursing community.
The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Students recognizes students who embody the core values of exceptional care, leadership, and a commitment to advancing the future of nursing. Nominees must demonstrate excellence in areas such as delivering exceptional care, advocating fiercely for patients, advancing evidence-based practice, embracing global citizenship, and promoting the nursing profession.
Nominated by faculty and peers alike, Olivia Tseng has left an indelible mark on the Carolina Nursing program through her exemplary work in sustaining and leading the undergraduate Association of Nursing Students (ANS) mentor/mentee program. Olivia’s commitment to this program has been nothing short of remarkable. She meticulously matched over 400 prospective Carolina Nursing applicants with mentors during her time at the SON, ensuring that each applicant felt supported and guided as they navigated the nursing school application process.
Olivia’s dedication went beyond mere matching; she ensured compatibility by considering factors such as academic background, career goals, and personal interests. This thoughtful approach fostered strong mentor-mentee relationships, providing invaluable support to aspiring nurses and fostering a sense of community within the program.
Nancy Jo Thompson, DNP, MSN-ED, RN-BC, remarked, “Olivia Tseng’s leadership, meticulous organization, and commitment to student success make her a highly deserving candidate for the DAISY Student Award. Olivia’s work has not only benefited countless prospective Carolina nursing students but also strengthened the Carolina Nursing program and our profession.”
