UNC School of Nursing mobile clinic earns 2025 NAFC Gold Seal for third straight year

For the third consecutive year, the UNC School of Nursing Mobile Health Clinic has earned the Gold Seal from the National Association of Free and Charitable Clinics (NAFC) Quality Standards Program—recognition of its ongoing commitment to delivering high-quality, accessible care to those who need it most.

In 2024, the clinic served 571 patients across five community sites in central North Carolina, providing more than 1,400 health screenings, including blood pressure, mental health, diabetes, and cholesterol checks. Nearly 80% of those served were first-time patients, and more than half spoke a language other than English. Over one-third were children and adolescents.

For many, this was their first step into preventive care. The clinic caught chronic conditions early—36% had high blood pressure, 26% screened positive for depression, and a portion showed signs of undiagnosed diabetes. In communities where care often feels out of reach, the clinic opened doors.

Supported by volunteer faculty and over 640 student training hours, the clinic doubles as a learning space—equipping the next generation of nurses with firsthand experience in community-based care.

The NAFC Gold Seal is awarded to clinics that meet rigorous standards in patient care, clinic operations, credentialing, and risk management.
