UNCSON Well Represented at STTI’s International Nursing Research Congress

There was a strong showing from UNCSON faculty and doctoral students at the 27th International Nursing Research Congress in Cape Town, South Africa.Associate Professor Diane Berry, PhD, ANP-BC, FAANP, FAAN presented an oral presentation on diabetes self-management outcomes in low-income ethnic minority patients in the United States.

Doctoral students Sama Hammad, Lindsey Horrell, and Grace Wu contributed oral presentations and posters.

Hammad presented on recruitment and retention in studying childhood obesity in Saudi Arabia and gave a poster on fidelity assessment and cultural appropriateness of the Arabic Child Feeding Questionnaire and Child Eating Behavior Questionnaire.

Horrell presented a poster on using social media to enhance study recruitment: how facebook and twitter may engage vulnerable populations.

Wu’s poster on weight stigma in relation to hair cortisol and binge eating in obese Asian-Americans was presented.

Dr. Chifundo Colleta Zimba, 2016 graduate of the UNCSON PhD program, presented a poster on perceived implementation of guidelines to prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV in Malawi: a qualitative multiple case study.

Following the busy and successful conference, Dr. Berry hosted a dinner for UNCSON presenters to enjoy some time together.
