Van Riper Presents 2018 CANS Abstract of Distinction

A big hats off to Professor Marcia Van Riper, PhD, RN, FAAN who presented her Abstract of Distinction at the 2018 Council for the Advancement of Nursing Science (CANS) State of the Science Congress on Nursing Research this past weekend in Washington, D.C.

One of six presentations selected for the special Abstracts of Distinction session at the annual conference, Dr. Van Riper presented her work “Family Management of Down Syndrome: Cross-Cultural” which reported results from a sample of 2,740 parents of children with Down syndrome from 10 countries, spanning North and South America, Europe and Asia.

CANS Abstracts of Distinction receive perfect or near-perfect scores by peer reviewers. “They are the best of the best,” said Frances Hill Fox Distinguished Professor Kathy Knafl, PhD, FAAN, who, along with Professor Emeritus George Knafl, worked with Marcia on the abstract. “Marcia’s presentation showcased both the quality and international breadth of SON faculty research.”

Our thanks to Marcia for braving the effects of Hurricane Florence to attend and represent Carolina Nursing so well.
