Xavier et al.: Characterizing Youth-Caregiver Concordance and Discrepancies in Psychopathology Symptoms in a US Community Sample

Youth self-report of psychopathology symptoms and their caregivers’ report are often discrepant. Dr. Xavier’s study on a community sample of 5094 youth from the greater Philadelphia area shows that these youth and caregiver discrepancies are the most pronounced for Black youth and youth of low socio-economic status. Race and socioeconomic status should be taken into account for accurate meant health assessment and evaluation.
