After becoming a nurse, Dr. Alzora Benjamin transferred her love for educating others into serving as a mentor, preceptor, division and life support educator, and clinical instructor. These experiences helped mold her teaching philosophy which emphasizes leading by example, fostering transparency, understanding today’s student, and fostering holistic growth in the areas of accountability, confidence, and collaboration.
Dr. Alzora Benjamin has been evolving within the nursing profession for over twenty-five years. Her career started in surgical critical care. She would find herself taking opportunities as a clinical nurse recruiter and an assistant nurse manager on a stepdown unit before making the decision in 2004 to move from Ohio to North Carolina in pursuit of an advanced practice degree in acute care. Dr. Benjamin was a nurse practitioner for several years in the areas of cardiothoracic surgery and critical care before completing her studies for her Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree in 2019 at UNC School of Nursing. She came to higher education during the COVID pandemic in 2020 as a clinical instructor within the UNC pre-licensure program and, in 2025, transitioned to her current role as Clinical Assistant Professor. With a strong background in providing comprehensive healthcare services to diverse patient populations, Dr. Benjamin is committed to educating and mentoring the next generation of healthcare professionals.
