Joshua Barrett, PhD, MBA, RN
Adjunct Assistant Professor
Joshua Barrett is the Associate Director of Research for the UNC Center for the Business of Health. Joshua manages a diverse portfolio of initiatives focused on public policy, business practices, and industry trends shaping the healthcare landscape.
Before joining UNC in 2021, he worked at Duke University Health System in hospital finance, supply chain, and procurement. He also has additional experience in health information management and revenue cycle. Clinically, he worked as a registered nurse in interventional radiology and emergency medicine.
Joshua earned his PhD from the UNC Chapel Hill School of Nursing and an MBA from Elon University. He holds a BSN and a BS in Health Sciences from James Madison University. His research focuses on health services and workforce dynamics, with particular emphasis on turnover, retention strategies, and workforce development.
