Karen Mehri, MA, LMFT
Embedded Counselor
Karen Mehri is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and the Embedded Counselor for the UNC School of Nursing. Originally from Central Illinois. She earned her B.A. in Communication from the University of Maryland, College Park, and her M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy from Appalachian State University. Karen has experience in providing therapy in integrated community healthcare, residential treatment, and foster care settings. She enjoys working with adolescents, young adults, adults, and families navigating change, strengthening relationships, healing from difficult experiences, and discovering strengths they may not yet recognize in themselves. Her approach to therapy is collaborative, strength-based, and grounded in the belief that a strong therapeutic relationship is the foundation for growth. Karen strives to create a warm, authentic space where clients feel seen and supported. Outside of CAPS, Karen enjoys reading, eating pasta, visiting the mountains, and all things Twilight. Karen is excited to join the School of Nursing and looks forward to supporting students’ well-being.
Available services include an initial assessment of needs, individualized treatment planning for reported concerns, initiating engagement in brief therapy, connection to group therapy services, coordination of care for medication management, and other types of referral coordination. Services are offered both in-person and telehealth. Flexible hours are available.
Karen will be available for appointments with School of Nursing students starting on Monday, August 24, 2026. Her office location is on the fourth floor in ITS Manning, Room 4009.
