This week marked the start of a new pilot peri-operative track designed to highlight the importance of operating room nursing and show patient progression from pre-op to discharge for students in N591 (Nursing Care of Adults with Major Health Problems II).
ABSN students Aimee Podraza, KaRae’ Carey, and Allison Schmidt (all pictured) will spend approximately twenty shifts through four areas associated with the operating room which include pre-operative services, the operating room, the post-anesthesia care unit, and a surgical floor at UNC Hillsborough. They will also have the opportunity to shadow a CRNA.
This unique program was developed by SON faculty Hilary Mendel, MSN, RN and Louise Fleming, PhD, RN in conjunction with Rachael Lorenzen, RN, Clinical Educator of Surgical Services at UNC Hillsborough (pictured) and Janet Chadwick, MBA, RN, Manager, Surgical Services Division Education and Reliability at UNC Hospitals.
We’re thrilled to be partnering with UNC Hospitals on this new track!
