Lessons learned from Assistant Professor Rhonda Lanning’s course preparing students and volunteers to become birth doulas are the topic of Sarah McShane’s talk as she competes as one of five finalists to become a TEDxUNC 2016 Student Speaker.
This year’s TEDxUNC theme is Bodies: Being Human. In her 18 minutes, Sarah will discuss the parallels between the medicalization of birth and death, and why it is important that we become more comfortable talking about them. She will draw from her experiences becoming a doula and losing her father this past year.
Come out and show your support! The TEDx Student Speaker finals will take place on Thursday, January 21st at 6:00pm in the Great Hall of the Student Union. Doors open at 5:30, so get there early and get a good seat. The event is free and audience members will get the opportunity to vote for their favorite speakers.
