Dr. Xavier and the Biobehavioral Lab receive Core Facilities Advocacy Committee Award for biomarker research

Dr. Rose Mary Xavier and the Biobehavioral Lab (BBL) team have been awarded a Core Facilities Advocacy Committee (CFAC) Award for their project titled “Validating inflammatory marker assay from DBS cards compared to whole blood samples.”

The goal of this project is to validate biomarker quantification assay and analysis procedure at the BBL by comparing Dried Blood Spot (DBS) samples to whole blood samples. This project will use the Luminex Flexmap 3d, a cutting-edge technology, that can measure dozens of protein biomarkers from a single sample. DBS cards allow for the collection of blood samples without the need for a phlebotomist and storage and shipment at ambient temperatures.

The CFAC award recognizes the BBL team’s dedication to advancing biomedical research and their commitment to developing innovative solutions for health-related challenges. With the support of the CFAC award, Dr. Xavier and the BBL team are eager to begin this exciting project and make strides in the field of biomarker research.
