UNC School of Nursing designated an Apple Distinguished School

Recognized for commitment to continuous innovation using technology

UNC School of Nursing is pleased to announce it has been recognized as an Apple Distinguished School for the 2023–2026 program term. UNC School of Nursing was selected for this distinction based on its commitment to continuous innovation in education and using Apple products to create exemplary learning practices.

Dr. Maureen Baker, director of EmpowerEd and associate professor at Carolina Nursing, passionately stated, “At Carolina, we prepare nurse leaders who are digitally savvy and intellectually curious about finding ways to improve the delivery of consistent, high-quality and safe patient care.”

She continued, “Through our EmpowerEd program and iPads, we equip our faculty with the tools to create digitally infused assignments, providing structure and creative latitude for our students. Students respond to our recipe of “structure and latitude” to create evidence-based innovations and not only exceed faculty expectations, but create a culture of inquiry, learning, digital innovation, and experimentation.”

Apple Distinguished Schools are recognized as some of the most innovative in the world. They’re centers of leadership and educational excellence, with a clear vision for how technology-rich environments support learning goals. In Apple Distinguished Schools, forward-thinking leaders and their communities work to inspire, imagine, and impact teaching and learning, and they have documented results of academic accomplishments.

Schools all over the world are using iPad and Mac to transform learning. As teachers incorporate technology into their lessons, they empower students to lead, learn, and thrive, to discover new opportunities, and to make their world a better place.
