CAROL DURHAM, EdD, RN, ANEF, FAAN, FSSH
Professor and Director, Education Innovation Simulation Learning Environment

Dr. Durham has over 44 years of experience in nursing education, with 25 years focused on simulation-based teaching and learning. A past president of the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL), she has collaborated with key organizations to develop simulation guidelines for nursing programs. Her work emphasizes integrating quality and safety into education, notably through the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s QSEN project and the AACN Essentials committees.

Committed to advancing clinical reasoning in prelicensure students, Dr. Durham is widely published and frequently presents nationally and internationally on simulation in healthcare education. Her contributions have earned her numerous honors, including the 2023 Society for Simulation in Healthcare Director of the Year and the 2018 INACSL “Spirit of Simulation” Leadership Excellence Award. She is a distinguished fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN), the National League for Nursing Academy (ANEF) and the Society for Simulation in Healthcare Academy (FSSH).

In this session, Durham will explore how leadership principles and simulation strategies can strengthen the preceptor role in today’s complex clinical environment. Participants will gain practical tools to build confidence, enhance teaching effectiveness, and support student success in transitioning classroom knowledge into safe, effective nursing practice.
