Intrageneric taxonomic distinction based on morphological variation in the macaque (Macaca) skeleton

In their article “Intrageneric taxonomic distinction based on morphologicalvariation in the macaque (Macaca) skeleton,” Dr. Brittany Kenyon-Flatt and her colleague explore taxonomic classification in macaques, examining craniodental and postcranial morphological variations of eight species. The study shows that both cranial and many postcranial elements offer a taxonomic signal, suggesting the upper limb bones are particularly useful for taxonomic assessment. Factors like behavior, ecogeography, and phylogeny contribute to species distinctions. Their article was published July 13, 2023, in The Anatomical Record.
